"Hush, Hush"
Becca Fitzpatrick
Simon & Schuster
Ya fiction

I was eighteen years old and I had just moved to my dad's in WA. Now, the last time i bought a book there It was Twilight and I lost about two days worth of sleep. (the drug of a book)... So I was pretty excited to get to the library. At this time, Twilight was the first sci-Fi YA fiction I had ever read. So I did some research online and Google gave me Hush, Hush. I loved the dark cover. All black and white with a shirtless falling angel. It wasn't vampires, but It was enough to interest me. The next day I went to the library and was shocked to see that the book had a waiting list of almost fifty people. So about two weeks later I bought the book. :) This is the first of a four book series and I'm in love with Becca's style of writing. She's very up to date on things. Texting all the time, amazing trendy outfits, plenty of good slang. And she's not afraid to play with her words. I like when an author pushes the limits on what is and isn't appropriate to put in a Ya novel. You should really see some of the things these readers are asking for from these books. Give em' a little something! And Becca provides. Steamy table scenes and lots of jean loop yanking. Love it.
So here we are, in present day Maine, following the life of Nora Grey; a sophomore in high school. Aside from the fact that her father was recently murdered, life is pretty normal for Nora. She has an amazing best friend, Vee Sky, awesome grades, and great plans for college. That is, until she meets Patch, a tall, dark, and handsome new transfer, who gets assigned her new biology seatie. She's immediately turned on by his rugged looks, and turned off by his hardcore attitude.
"His black eyes sliced into me, and the corners of his mouth tilted up. My heart fumbled a beat and in that pause, a feeling of gloomy darkness seemed to slide like a shadow over me. It vanished in an instant, but I was still staring at him. His smile wasn't friendly. It was a smile that spelled trouble. With a promise."
To make matters worse, The over-confident stud wont cooperate when they are assigned the tasks of getting as much information about each other for a class project. Determined to get a good grade, Nora goes on a scavenger hunt for info on her new science partner, but the deeper she digs, the more her curiosities grow and her discoveries change her life for the better and for the worse.
If you thought vampires were hot, Fallen angels are on fire! Here, we have Patch. This bad ass former Archangel who teases the living daylights out of Nora. In a good way. He wardrobe consists of black, black, and more black, matching his hypnotizing eyes and curly head. He smells like soap and showers, and if he isn't wearing a form fitting tee, hes showing off his goodies. If you aren't convinced yet:
5 Reasons to love fallen angels:
1. Being one of the fallen makes you just as divine with the ability to be as sinful as you'd like. I'll take it.
2. They have wings. Giant fluffy gorgeous wings, attached to gorgeous chiseled bodies that can fly you around.
3. They live forever. Yes, this may seem like a downer at first, but then you have to realize: if a fallen angel is madly in love with you, they're going to do pretty much whatever they can to make you immortal with them so that you can spend eternity and ever after together. Unless we're going for the sad ending spiel. but shhhh. We'll be immortal.
4. Protection. You're dealing with the godly. The ones God didn't want anymore, but didn't bother with divine strippings. Just a good boot out the door. You wont have to worry about any monsters under your bed.
5. All that knowledge. Makes for a good man you can bring home to mama.
Spoiler Point!! Things I loved. Things I loathed:
- Angel. If I ever drooled over such a cheezy nickname. I'm very upset with Mrs. Fitzpatrick. Her Patch has stolen my heart. Probably more than any other YA character has. It's all that black he wears. we have a matching wardrobe. And I LOVE tall guys. I sorta have a thing for fallen angels too. Defying the heavens. What isn't hot about that? (Are you listening to be gah over fictional characters? Do not judge me.)
- Nora. She's reminds me a bit of myself. Two inches short of a pacifist, with an firery best friend. She thinks before she does things too. I mean, yeah, she does some questionable things, but; given the situations I might have made those same choices. So here are your props Nora.
- Vee. I ADORE Vee. She's constantly making me laugh. She's very down to earth and harsh and down for whatever. I'd enjoy her friendship greatly.
-Angels can't feel a thing. WELL DOESN'T THAT SUCK. But it definitely didn't prevent or downplay any steamy scenes.
I really wish I could say more but I don't want to give away too much. It's nice to get a good surprise from a novel. Great book and only greater things to come as the series progresses. Check out for my review on the second book "Crescendo".
